Apple Wallet vs Google Wallet for loyalty cards: what each one allows

Both Wallets can hold your loyalty card and keep its balance current. They differ in how — and whether — customers are notified. Planning campaigns around those differences avoids promises you can't keep.

Both: the card updates itself

When a stamp or point is added, the platform updates the pass on the phone. The customer always sees the current balance without opening anything.

Apple Wallet: updates, not adverts

Apple's rules don't allow passes to be used for promotional push messages. A pass can show a message when certain fields change, but Stampaki doesn't use that for offers — on iPhone, a campaign updates the card silently.

Google Wallet: limited message notifications

Google Wallet supports messages on a pass, with notifications limited per pass per day. Stampaki caps notified messages at three per card per day and adds later ones silently.

Location relevance on both

A pass can carry up to 10 locations. The phone may surface it nearby, but the operating system decides when. No provider can guarantee a lock-screen appearance.

  • Store coordinates only — not customer tracking
  • Behaviour differs by platform and settings

What this means for your campaigns

Design offers to work even without a notification: visible on the card, applied at the counter, time-boxed. Treat any notification as a bonus, not the plan.

Every visit counts.
